SomatoEmotional® Release (SER)
SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is an extension of Craniosacral Therapy that focuses on releasing emotional energy stored within the body’s tissues due to stress or trauma. This process supports the integration of emotions and physical healing, promoting lasting change and well-being.
What is SomatoEmotional Release®?
Developed by Dr. John Upledger, SER recognises that unresolved emotions can manifest in physical symptoms or patterns, such as chronic illness, reduced immunity, lack of energy, or anxiety.
SomatoEmotional Release provides a framework and tools for working with body tissues (“somata”) while addressing retained emotions. The body and mind are deeply interrelated, and by working with both, SER enables the release and integration of trauma.
This process is gentle, creative, and deeply transformative. SER facilitates personal growth, helping individuals move from illness, unresolved issues, and untapped potential toward wellness, peace, and fulfillment.
A Mind-Body Approach
Historically, healthcare has treated the mind and body separately. SER bridges this gap by addressing both simultaneously, facilitating the release or integration of retained trauma in a gentle, creative manner. This approach supports personal growth, enhances well-being, and encourages a thriving life.
How does SomatoEmotional Release work?
SomatoEmotional Release recognises that emotional experiences can become “trapped” in the body’s tissues, affecting physical health. By addressing these emotional imprints, SER facilitates the body’s natural healing processes, bridging the connection between physical and emotional well-being.
What can I expect during a SomatoEmotional Release session?
During an SER session, your therapist may ask you about your sensations, emotions, or memories. This exploration helps uncover and release retained emotional tension. The process is guided, gentle, and designed to encourage both physical and emotional healing.
“I would like to thank Jo Callender for her help with my aches and pains. Her skilled massage has been wonderful and enabled me to continue an active life.
I have no hesitation in recommending her for anyone requiring a caring, careful, and well-trained remedial therapist.”
“I am writing to both thank you and endorse what I have received as a client of yours in your practice as a Remedial Massage therapist.
Since the commencement of regular therapeutic massage at your hands, I have had no migraines, which I had been having several times a month.
Your strengths and main assets as a practitioner are your ability to diagnose the predominant problem and effectively treat the area. Even after one session, I had increased ease and efficiency of movement and felt muscle function had improved. No debilitating migraines since commencing regular massage sessions are proof in itself.
I have tried the skills of many Remedial Massage therapists and practitioners and am sorry that my moving will mean I am no longer able to utilize your services. Your professional ability, warmth, and friendliness of personality, as I know it in your practice, will be difficult to replace.
Best wishes and many grateful thank-you’s for returning Saturdays back to a day of relaxed ability to do whatever is fanciable!”
